Assisted Living Reviews for The Guilford House
The Guilford House was so aggressive in their tactics of trying to push Dad out we had to engage a State of Connecticut Ombudsman to fight for Dad's right to stay. Why did we do that after he fell on their watch? At the time we truly believed the risk of moving him someplace unfamiliar was far greater than the risk of keeping him at the Guilford House. We won the fight to keep Dad at the Guilford House, but in the end we lost the war and Dad lost his life. On February 15, 2018 we got a call that Dad was complaining of pain in his leg.

This facility's care has declined sharply in the past few years, likely as a cost-cutting measure. This facility is going to kill someone, and it might be your family member. And Cal, spare the people your lines of garbage. Just go ahead and say that you didn't like my mom. Just go ahead and admit that you contacted the insurance company to try and make sure my grandmother didn't get the care she needed because you had to feel like a big man.

None of this is inexpensive, but she's getting a lot here compared to other facilities where she's paying way more than what she's paying here. My grandfather moved into the Guilford House. They are very nice, the staff is very connected, and knowledgeable. They make you feel very confident about their ability to care for your loved one. Just from talking to them, they provide a high level of care, they really know their residents, and their residents are like their family.
They're very caring and it's convenient to Route 1. The place is very nice, they take good care of her, and we are very pleased. The staff is very, very caring and they like my sister-in-law. Everybody is very attentive to her so we're very happy about that. The food is very good and their chefs are good. It's an older facility but it's very clean, it's just a little tired-looking and needs a little redecorating.

His nurse had no idea what could be wrong - maybe he had a blood clot she said. They told us he was having a great day and had been up and happy, but... Just to be on the safe side she thought it was a good idea to have his leg looked at, so as a precaution were sending him by ambulance to the hospital. I think a five-year old could have taken one look at Dad's leg and recognized that something was very wrong. Dad was in excruciating pain and such bad shape he went straight to a trauma room at the hospital and 10 days later he died. The official, State of Connecticut coroners' report states Dad died as a result of 'blunt force trauma' to his lower extremity.
